Bielefeld University’s Rector Angelika Epple has been elected to the European Universities Association Board at the 2025 General Assembly in Riga

The European University Association (EUA) has announced the election of Professor Dr. Angelika Epple, the Rector of Bielefeld University, to its Board during the 28th General Assembly that was held on April 10-11, 2025, in Riga (Latvia). This appointment marks a significant milestone for the NEOLAiA European Universities Alliance, since Bielefeld University is one of the founding members.

Professor Dr. Angelika Epple joined the EUA Board alongside Gregor Majdič (University of Ljubljana, Slovenia), Ivanka Popović (former Rector, University of Belgrade, Serbia), and Manuel Tuñón de Lara (former President, University of Bordeaux, France). The newly elected board members will serve a four-year term from 2025 to 2029.

The General Assembly was part of the 2025 EUA Annual Conference, hosted by the University of Latviai in Riga. The conference focused on “Connecting the dots on sustainability and resilience”, exploring how universities can contribute to a more sustainable future while strengthening institutional and societal resilience.

Professor Dr. Epple’s election to the EUA Board is expected to amplify NEOLAiA’s voice in shaping European higher education policies.
