Cybersecurity in a Digitalised Society: Key Takeaways from Örebro University’s Event

Feb 6, 2025 | Neolaia

As our world becomes increasingly digitalised, cybersecurity and information security are more critical than ever. Örebro University and NEOLAiA recently hosted an event at Kulturhuset to address these pressing issues, emphasising the role of human behaviour in security risks.

The Human Factor in Cybersecurity

While technology plays a crucial role in cybersecurity, the greatest risk often lies in human behaviour. The event focused on key questions: How can individuals protect themselves? And just as importantly, what should they avoid? Raising awareness and fostering a security-conscious mindset were highlighted as essential strategies.

Expert Insights on Security Challenges

A distinguished panel, moderated by Shang Gao (Örebro University), featured cybersecurity experts:

  • Satu Björn (MSB – Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency)
  • Fredrik Karlsson (Örebro University)
  • Christiancarmine Esposito (Università degli Studi di Salerno, Italy)
  • Harald Gjermundrød (University of Nicosia, Cyprus)

The discussion explored cultural differences in cybersecurity approaches across Sweden, Italy, and Cyprus. Panelists also examined the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on security, emphasising how AI can both strengthen defences and introduce new vulnerabilities.

A Call for Awareness and Proactive Measures

The event underscored the importance of education, awareness, and proactive security practices. As cyber threats evolve, individuals and organisations must stay informed and vigilant to minimise risks.

A big thank you to all participants for an insightful and thought-provoking discussion!
